Fireplace & Scented Candles

There’s nothing that brings more warmth and comfort into your home than a fireplace. Keeping a fire going instantly sets a mood, making everything feel so much more homey and inviting. You can gather around the fireplace to read stories or watch a winter movie, or simply enjoy the beautiful atmosphere it creates.

If you don’t have a real fireplace, you can still create the same effect with an electric or faux fireplace. To take it a step further, adding a few scented candles is a great way to bring aroma into your home. Go for winter-themed scents like warm vanilla, peppermint, or cinnamon. The combination of a fireplace and scented candles is sure to keep your home feeling cozy all winter long.

Create a Comfy Reading Nook

There’s likely a little corner in your home that makes the perfect reading nook; all you need to do is set it up. Once you’ve chosen the spot, layer it with a few soft, fuzzy blankets and add plenty of pillows to create a comfortable place to sit. To tie it all together, hang fairy lights on the wall to add a whimsical glow, and a small table or stool where you can set your hot cocoa, peppermint tea, or snacks while you read. Altogether, it makes for the perfect spot to spend a chilly afternoon indoors.

Warm Lighting and Lamps

Lighting plays a big role in setting the mood and atmosphere of your home; it can completely transform the space depending on its tone and warmth. Neuroscience research even shows how the right lighting can enhance our mood or cognitive abilities.

A great place to start is by swapping out cool lighting for warmer, yellow-toned light bulbs. Incorporating additional lighting sources, such as lamps, LED strips, or fairy lights, helps to create soft glows that enhance the space and make it feel extra inviting.

Create a Cozy Hot Cocoa & Tea Station

What’s better than creating your own cozy hot cocoa and tea station this winter? You’ll have your own little corner to whip up whatever drink your heart desires, from classic peppermint tea to hot chocolate topped with sprinkles and marshmallows. Start by grabbing a utility cart or a small, tall table. Add winter-themed mugs and coasters as well as airtight jars for toppings like marshmallows, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. Use baskets to organize different flavors of tea, syrup, and hot chocolate, and decorate the area with paper snowflake garlands, tea lights, or faux snow.

It’s the perfect winter setup, and you can even invite friends and family over to make hot cocoa together, then watch a movie or bake some treats while sipping your drinks. As a bonus, the sweet, warm aroma will fill your home, making it feel and smell even cozier.

Rugs and Carpets

Adding rugs and carpets is an easy way to bring both texture and warmth to your home. They help add insulation, feel soft and comfortable under your feet, and add a pop of colour to any space. Try experimenting with rugs of various shapes and styles to find the one that suits your space best. Areas that make a good spot for rugs include the living room, particularly when they peek out from under the couch, beside your bed, or at the doorway to welcome you as you walk in. Light-colored rugs, such as beige, blue, and grey, work best to make the space feel inviting.

Layer Your Bedding

As the temperature drops, it’s a good idea to switch out your summer bedding for winter ones to keep you feeling warm through the night. Instead of relying on one thick comforter, try layering your blankets. This makes your bed feel much warmer and softer, and also allows you to adjust for different temperatures if some nights are not as cold as others. Add chunky knit throws, faux fur blankets, and big pillows to bring texture and a decorative touch that makes your bed feel cozy and full.

All Ready for Winter

Creating a warm and inviting home allows you to slow down, relax, and enjoy yourself. Whether that’s curling up by the fireplace, sipping a cup of hot cocoa while watching a movie, or simply taking a restful nap. With these 6 little touches, your home can become the perfect cozy retreat all season long.
