As Black Friday approaches, getting swept up in the excitement of scoring deals is easy. This year, Black Friday falls on November 29. But before shopping, consider this: is your home ready to welcome those new purchases?

Decluttering before Black Friday helps you create space and ensures your spending is focused on items you truly need. Here’s how to get started:

Set Goals for Your Decluttering Mission

Decide which areas of your home need the most attention. Whether it’s the living room, kitchen, or closets, having a clear focus will keep you on track.

Adopt the “One-In, One-Out” Rule

For every new item you plan to purchase, identify one you no longer need. This approach helps prevent clutter from returning after Black Friday deals arrive.

Sort into Three Categories

Create piles labeled “Keep,” “Donate,” and “Discard.” Be honest about items you haven’t used in months or those taking up unnecessary space.

Start with High-Impact Areas

Target spaces where clutter tends to accumulate, like entryways, closets, and countertops. A cleaner, more organized environment will feel refreshing and prepare your home for new arrivals.

Plan for Donations

Black Friday isn’t just for shopping; it’s also an opportunity to give back. Donate gently used items to local charities or community centers.

Reassess Your Shopping List

Once your home is decluttered, revisit your Black Friday wishlist. Are those deals still aligned with your needs, or were they impulse-driven? A clean home often clarifies what’s truly important.
