Calgary is a vibrant city with plenty of exciting things to do during the spring and summer months. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the first time, there’s something for everyone. In this blog post, we’ll share the top 10 activities to do in Calgary, Alberta in spring/summer 2023.

1. Explore the Calgary Zoo

Home to over 1,000 animals from around the world, the Calgary Zoo is a must-visit attraction for animal lovers of all ages. The zoo is operated by the Calgary zoological society, a non-profit organization and Calgary’s longest running charity, and is based in Bridgeland.

2. Take a walk in Prince’s Island Park

Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, this picturesque park offers stunning views of the Bow River and is the perfect spot for a picnic or leisurely stroll. The park is commonly home to Canada geese and mallard ducks and was named after Peter Anthony Prince. It can be found on the Bow River, north of downtown Calgary.

3. Attend the Calgary Stampede

Known as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” the Calgary Stampede is a world-famous event featuring rodeo shows, live music, and delicious food. The event runs for ten days during July (7-16 in 2023).

4. Visit the Glenbow Museum

This museum showcases the art, history, and culture of Western Canada through a variety of exhibits and interactive displays. The museum is currently located in downtown Calgary and has been there since 1976. Added bonus – entry is completely free!

5. Take a day trip to Banff National Park

Just a short drive from Calgary, Banff National Park offers breathtaking views of the Canadian Rockies and is a great spot for hiking, camping, and wildlife watching. The park was established in 1885, making it Canada’s oldest national park.

6. Explore the Devonian Gardens

This indoor botanical garden located in the CORE Shopping Centre offers a peaceful oasis in the heart of downtown Calgary. There is over a hectare of botanical gardens, including over 500 trees, 50 varieties of plants, a 900 sq. ft. living wall, fountains, fish ponds and a playground.

7. Go on a river rafting adventure

Experience the thrill of white-water rafting on the Bow River, one of the most scenic waterways in the region. The Bow River opens in the Rocky Mountains and winds through the Alberta foothills onto the Prairies before meeting the Oldman River.

8. Check out the Calgary Tower

This iconic landmark offers stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains from its observation deck. The Tower was established in 1968 and is over 190m tall. It’s also one of the founding members of the World Federation of Great Towers.

9. Attend a concert or event at the Scotiabank Saddledome

This multipurpose arena hosts a variety of sports, concerts, and other events throughout the year. The arena is currently home to the Calgary Wranglers who entered the AHL league in 2022.

10. Visit the Calgary Farmers’ Market

This indoor market offers fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and other local products from over 80 vendors. It was first opened in July 2004 in an airplane hangar and has grown ever since.
