Celebrity Homes of the Week: Meg Ryan, Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell, Warren Buffett, Pete Sampras, and Jerry Garcia

Looking for real estate with a star-studded history? You’re in luck, as several homes belonging to Hollywood heavyweights have recently hit the market. From 90’s icon Meg Ryan’s SoHo digs to the hallowed halls of rock legend Jerry Garcia’s former home, this week’s listings are the stuff of legends.

Meg Ryan’s Fabulous SoHo Loft

(4,100 sq. ft., US$11 million)

FOR SALE: Nineties screen sweetheart Meg Ryan, famous for You’ve Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally and one very iconic restaurant scene, has listed her stunning fourth-floor condo, located in the chic Manhattan neighbourhood of SoHo. Originally bought from Simpson’s voice actor Hank Azaria for $8 million, Ryan will turn a tidy profit if she gets full price. This unit, which features five huge windows, seven architectural columns, and ebony hardwood is a true masterpiece – it was even featured in Architectural Digest!

Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell’s Pacific Palisades Mansion

(5 bed, 5 bath, 6,889 sq. ft., US$7.25 million)

SOLD: The original Hollywood golden girl (and Kate Hudson’s hot mama) and husband Kurt Russell have successfully sold their California estate (which we originally featured in October). The power couple have called the mansion, nestled in the pricey Riveria neighbourhood, home since 2004, when they picked it up for $4.12 million. In addition to Goldie’s quirky design details (including a Mad Hatter-esque checkerboard kitchen), this property features a meditation pavilion, pilates gym, sauna, and his and hers closets. Plus, what bathroom is complete without a chandelier?

Warren Buffett’s Laguna Beach Getaway

(6 bed, 7 bath, 3,600 sq. ft., US$11 million)

FOR SALE: Berkshire Hathaway head and storied investor Warren Buffett has listed his family’s long-time vacation home – and he looks to make an absolute killing, having purchased the beach property for only $150,000 in 1971! Buffett credits good timing, having bought the home before the popular Laguna neighbourhood took off. With a huge porch and seaside views, it’s proof positive that hard work pays.

Pete Sampras’ Brentwood Estate

(6 bed, 6.5 bath, 6,900 sq. ft., US$7.25 million)

SOLD: Tennis legend and 14-time Grand Slam winner Pete Sampras has sold his posh Brentwood mansion, reportedly to Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy. The sprawling gated property – which surprisingly does not include a tennis court – features three fireplaces (two indoor and one out), terrace with built-in grill, pool, theatre room, and wine cellar.

Jerry Garcia’s Former Marin Homestead

(4 bed, 2,750 sq. ft., US$4.35 million)

FOR SALE: The former abode of late Grateful Dead musician Jerry Garcia is back on the market, now listed for $4.35 million. Dubbed “San Souci” – French for “without worry”, it’s truly an tranquil property, complete with sweeping coastline views. In addition to a heated pool and spa and unique architectural details, it boasts some serious rock history, having been the site of legendary jams with Bob Dylan. And while the home has changed hands a few times since Garcia and his family dwelled in it in the 70s, it still includes the door to his studio space, a stunning custom piece commissioned by the rocker himself.
