5 Home Staging Tips for Selling Your Home in the Fall

Fall is surprisingly a great season for selling and buying homes, and if you’re planning on selling your home this year, here’s how to stage it.

Cozy Up the Home

Add cute throws and pillows, accent with fall colors, and if possible, throw some rugs down to cover any tile or hardwood. Even though these details are small, they can have a significant effect on how potential buyers feel when viewing your house. Tapping into the coziness of fall will better help potential buyers envision themselves living there during the colder months.

Maintaining Curb Appeal

Although many people focus on curb appeal during spring and summer, maintaining curb appeal is something that should be done no matter what season you’re selling in. After all, your outdoor space is likely the first view prospective buyers have of your home – so make it count! Rake the leaves, mow the grass, and clean up any garden beds to keep everything looking polished.

If you’ve got a green thumb, you can plant some low maintenance, fall-blooming plants to further spruce up your front yard. Flowers like marigolds, asters, and tulips are all great options.

Keep Holiday Decorating to a Minimum

It may be tempting to display all your cool Halloween skeletons or Thanksgiving turkeys, but try to keep decorations tasteful and minimalistic. Holiday decor distracts from the home itself and can be a deterrent to potential buyers. Fewer decorations also help to depersonalize your home – an important way to encourage buyers to imagine themselves living in your space.

Keep it Bright

Make use of natural light as much as possible, and as the days get shorter ensure there’s lots of other light sources to use around the house. Adjust and rearrange furniture to get rid of any shadowy corners, replace burned out bulbs, and leave exterior lights on when hosting evening showings.

Keep the Home at a Comfortable Temperature

Chilly homes are not inviting homes. Set your thermostat to whatever will be comfortable. Not too hot, not too cold. If the temperature inside is wrong, buyers could be led to believe something’s wrong with the heat/cooling system.
