Robert Downey Jr.’s Historic Hamptons Windmill
(4 bed, 4.5 bath, US$10.5 million)
BOUGHT: When it comes to real estate, it doesn’t appear Robert Downey Jr. shares Tony Stark’s hyper-modern taste – he and his wife Susan have reportedly purchased a quaint windmill cottage in East Hampton for just over $10 million. While the windmill itself is just for show, this property is full of history, built in 1880s. In addition to gorgeous rich hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings, light and airy interior, and three-car garage, this unique four-acre property also features a two-bedroom guesthouse, tennis court, and master suite with attached sundeck.
Selena Gomez’s Studio City Colonial
(4 bed, 3 bath, US$2.25 million)
BOUGHT: When it comes to real estate, Selena Gomez just can’t keep her hands to herself. The singer and actress has just scooped up a Studio City property (perhaps to be in close proximity to The Weeknd’s recently-purchased LA mansion). This colonial-style home channels a cute cottage vibe, with rustic brick accents and fireplaces, white wainscoting, and a mix of hardwood and clay tile throughout. An open-concept dining and living area offers a peek at the kitchen’s custom patchwork-brick chimney, and offers walk-out access to an outdoor dining and entertainment area. Gomez has also changed her mind about offloading her Fort Worth property, pulling the Texas mansion off the market. Looks like LA will be where home – and her heart – is for the next little while.
Tobey Maguire’s LA Architectural Showpiece
(3 bed, 4 bath, 3,258 sq. ft., US$3.375 million)
BOUGHT: The original live-action Spidey has added another property to his web, er, portfolio, picking up a West Hollywood home built in sharp architectural style. Featuring a white stucco, wood and green glass exterior, this unique home, built by famed architect Clive Wilkinson, is full of unexpected details, such as an off-centre fireplace, rubber office floors, and a showpiece suspended wood desk. It’s also got the usual luxury bells and whistles, like a saltwater swimming pool, lovely landscaping, and paparazzi-proof security gates. Maguire has been shaking up his California properties as of late, buying a Brentwood mansion in November following listing his Santa Monica Compound.
Kristin Cavallari’s Chicago Mansion
(7 bed, 10 bath, 11,000 sq. ft., US$4.7 million)
FOR SALE: Kristin Cavallari’s come a long way from Laguna Beach’s main mean girl– the now-mother of three fashion designer / Instagram celeb has been dwelling in the swanky Chicago suburb of Lake Forest with husband Jay Cutler (formerly of the Chicago Bears) since 2014. However, the two appear to be on the move, having just listed their impressive estate for $4.7 million. A massive 11,000-square foot mansion situation on a 1.5-acre lake-front lot, this home has no fewer than five fireplaces, a stunning all-white and stainless steel kitchen with dual ovens and fridges. It’s also got some less domestically-inclined perks such as an indoor basketball court, wine cellar, and theatre room. Could a return to sunny California be on Cavallari’s radar?
Kim Kardashian’s Former Beverly Hills Abode
(5 bed, 4.5 bath, 3,799 sq. ft., US$5.5 million)
FOR SALE: Speaking of reality show mainstays, a home that once belonged to Kim Kardashian has re-hit the market. Originally bought by the mockress in 2010 for $4.8 million, she sold a mere three years later, after meeting now-hubby Kanye West. While the two have since purchased several impressive properties together, we like to think Kim reflects fondly on this Tuscan-style home – after all, she had her initials monogrammed into the dressing-room mirrors. Custom ironwork, rich hardwood floors, and an impressive outdoor pool area with outdoor fireplace and patio make this a real-life real estate dream.
David Arquette’s Stately LA Tudor
(7 bed, 8 bath, US$8.45 million)
FOR SALE: Star of the 90’s Scream series (and former spouse of Courtney Cox) David Arquete is looking to list a piece of LA history, placing the O’Melvory House back on the market (you know a home is fancy when it has its own last name). A stately tutor built in 1908, this property is filled with turn-of-the-century detailing, such as floor-to-ceiling wood panelling in the foyer, exposed mean ceilings, and a marble fireplace in the master suite. Arquette has been looking to offload this stately home since last year, originally listing it for $8.5 million.
