When it comes to a storage unit, everyone loves having extra space, but not too many peoplelike actually organizing a storage unit. To organize a storage unit, it doesn’t have to be this long, complicated process.

That’s why the Moving Help® Marketplace is here to provide you with storage unit organization tips, and why hiring labor-only storage unit movers from Moving Help can help make the process easier and get you organized faster.

1) Stack Vertically

Every inch of space matters when it comes to a storage unit. By stacking items vertically, you can fit more of your belongings into your storage unit. Remember, you want to stack your moving boxes with the heaviest items at the bottom, and the lightest items at the top. Otherwise, your heavy moving boxes could damage your lighter moving boxes underneath it.

2) Use Shelving

If you can’t stack items vertically yourself, you might consider getting shelving for your storage unit. Mobile shelving units are better. This way, it doesn’t take forever when you want to move the shelving throughout your storage unit’s space. You can more effectively stack your moving boxes together when putting boxes onto shelves. Additionally, your moving boxes can be grouped and organized more easily.

3) Create a Walking Route

Trust us. While this may seem silly, it’s actually an important tip. If you don’t create a walking path from the back of your storage unit to the front of your storage unit, how are you supposed to get the items that are in the far back left corner of your storage unit? Creating a walking route is part of planning ahead. By planning ahead, it should make the process go along much quicker and much faster when organizing your storage unit.

4) Group Moving Boxes by Seasons or Usage

You’ll need to find an organizational system that works best for you. Moving Help has found grouping moving boxes by seasons or by total usage is a great way to find boxes quickly. Your most commonly used items also should be toward the front of your storage unit. Meanwhile, your less-used belongings belong toward the back of a storage unit. You can group moving boxes in your storage unit however you want; just please remember your own organization method.

5) Protect Furniture

If you’re moving furniture, fragile items, antiques, etc. into your storage unit, you’ll want to protect them from dust, mold, moths, etc. We recommend using furniture blankets or moving pads to help alleviate this potential problem. You can rent or buy furniture blankets from U-Haul.

How Moving Labor Makes Storage Unit Moving Easier

Storage unit movers can make life easier for customers. On average, hiring two Moving Helpers for two hours will cost you around $270 USD or $280 CAD.
