When fall comes around, Ontario becomes a haven for fall family adventures. Whether you live in the heart of Toronto or a small town surrounded by vibrant forests, the season offers plenty of activities for the entire family. From pumpkin patches to hiking trails, here are some of Ontario’s best fall family activities.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin picking is a quintessential fall activity, and Ontario is home to some amazing pumpkin patches. Many farms offer a wide selection of pumpkins and fun attractions like hayrides, corn mazes, and petting zoos. Popular destinations include Downey’s Farm Market in Caledon, Chappell Farms in Barrie, and Pingle’s Farm Market in Hampton. Arrive early to avoid crowds and secure the perfect pumpkin for carving!

Explore Ontario’s Fall Foliage

Ontario’s fall colours are some of the best in Canada. Whether you’re taking a scenic drive or venturing out for a hike, there are plenty of places to admire the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. Some top spots for leaf peeping include Algonquin Provincial Park, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and the Muskoka region.

Apple Picking

Apple orchards are in full swing during the fall, offering a perfect blend of outdoor activity and delicious rewards. Many farms allow families to pick their own apples and feature other attractions like fresh cider, baked goods, and picnic spots. Archibald Orchards & Estate Winery in Bowmanville, Chudleigh’s Farm in Milton, and Albion Orchards in Caledon are great places to visit.

Attend a Fall Festival

Fall in Ontario means festivals! Many towns and cities host fall fairs and festivals where families enjoy live music, local food, games, and seasonal crafts. These festivals celebrate the harvest season and a sense of community. Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show, one of Ontario’s largest and oldest agricultural fairs, is a popular destination. The Apple Butter and Cheese Festival in Waterloo Region and Pumpkinfest in Port Elgin are other excellent options for enjoying local flavours and fall-themed activities.

Go on a Haunted Adventure

Fall wouldn’t be complete without some spooky fun. Many towns across Ontario offer family-friendly haunted experiences, from ghost walks to Halloween-themed parks. For a daytime adventure, Canada’s Wonderland’s Camp Spooky transforms the park into a non-scary Halloween experience with trick-or-treating, mazes, and costume contests for young children. For older kids and adults, the Haunted Walk of Toronto is a great way to explore the city’s spooky history.

Farm Tours and Petting Zoos

Many Ontario farms offer interactive experiences, including petting zoos, tractor rides, and harvest-themed activities. Brooks Farms in Mount Albert is known for its Fall Fun Festival, which includes barnyard animals, jumping pillows, and a corn maze. Springridge Farm in Milton offers a range of seasonal activities, including a farm tour, pony rides, and a giant sandbox for the kids.
