Planning a road trip somewhere in Canada? Whether you’re looking for a scenic day trip or are organizing a week-long adventure, we’ve mapped out the best and most iconic routes you can take for the ultimate Canadian road trip!

Cabot Trail

If you’re a golfer, you’ll enjoy the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. The Cabot Links resort offers two amazing courses: the Cabot Cliffs and the Cabot Links. If you forgot your clubs, the route connects several coastal communities where you may discover more about the area’s Acadian and Gaelic roots, eat fresh seafood, or peruse locally created artwork. The trip also includes beautiful beaches, hiking trails, horseback riding, and places to stop and snap pictures.

Suggested Stops: Black Brook Beach, Meat Cove, Frog Pond Cafe, Skyline Trail, Hide Away Campground, La Boulangerie Aucoin Bakery

Dempster Highway

Or, if you enjoy getting off the beaten track, consider the Dempster Highway, Canada’s only all-season public road that travels through the beautiful Arctic Circle, letting you see all the wonders the Northwest Territories offers. Share the road with caribou and foxes, watch the Aurora Borealis, and visit Tuktoyaktuk, the world’s second-largest pingo (an ice-cored hill).

Suggested Stops: Tombstone Territorial Park, Lost Patrol Gravesite, Inuvik’s Igloo Church, Banks Island, Mackenzie River

Chatham-Kent Corridor

If you prefer day trips, the Chatham-Kent Corridor in Ontario offers over ten routes to visit different communities and farms, try excellent food, or shop locally. The picture-perfect Highway 3 has many amazing things to see and do, including Port Dover, the historic Underground Railroad, and various parks to stop and stretch.

Suggested Stops: Tecumseh Monument, Point Pelee National Park, Boonies Drive-In, Thamesville Maize

Sea to Sky Highway

Take the Sea to Sky Highway from downtown Vancouver to Whistler. Visit the breathtaking Shannon Falls or Brandywine Falls, or stop at Porteau Cove to view the Howe Sound and the distant mountains. But take a break and ride the Sea to Sky Gondola, which will take you over the Howe Sound for the most fabulous view.

Suggested Stops: Gastown, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Britannia Mine Museum National Historic Site, Sea to Sky Gondola

Calgary to Lake Louise

This road trip isn’t the longest, but the crystalline waters and incredible views make the drive worth it. Stop in Banff and take in the truly epic Rocky Mountains scenery. There are plenty of places to visit to make your trip longer!

Suggested Stops: Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, the Kananaskis, Calgary Zoo, Cochrane, Canmore, Bow Falls Lookout

Vancouver to Tofino

Vancouver Island is one of the most beautiful places in Canada for a road trip, and the Highway 4 route from Vancouver to Tofino is among the most picturesque. This thrilling trip passes by rivers, mountain ranges, extinct jungles, remote beaches, and craggy coasts. The journey starts at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, a charming North Shore community worth checking out before departing.

Suggested Stops: Coombs Old Country Market, Port Alberni, Wild Pacific Trail, MacMillan Provincial Park, Lovelock Fence

The Irish Loop – Newfoundland and Labrador

Circling the southeast corner of the Avalon Peninsula is one of the most spectacular drives in Newfoundland and Labrador. Take your time on this stunning road trip through Newfoundland and Labrador, covering 312 kilometers one way. Enjoy the historic sites, exciting activities in St. John’s, birdwatching possibilities, and scenic coastlines.

Suggested Stops: La Manche Suspension Bridge, Ferryland Light House, Whales at St. Vincent’s Beach, Avalon Peninsula

Ultimate Canadian Road Trip – Trans Canada Highway

If you want to go all in on the most incredible road trips possible, travel the Trans Canada Highway. Start on the East Coast in St. Johns or the West Coast in Victoria. You’ll visit all ten provinces, experience mind-blowing scenery, national parks, and unique cities and towns, and see almost everything Canada offers. The trip will take at least weeks and stretches 7,820km across the country.
