Mel Gibson
(5 bed, 5.5 bath, US$17.5 million)
“They may take our lives, but they’ll never take…OUR FREEDOM!”
FOR SALE: Aye, “FREEDOM” is exactly what the Braveheart star, Mel Gibson, is looking for as he tries to get his Malibu Estate off his hands. The five-bed, five-and-a-half bath house is on the market for US$17.5 million. The American movie star may be born and raised in the States and Australia, but his heart seems to stay with the Scots! His living room is set out with a touch of Braveheart, with a stone mantel fireplace and décor that gives it that wee Scottish feel. The garden is no less impressive with the outdoor seating area surrounded by beautiful greenery and vines wrapped round the patio cover poles. This European-styled house also has a lap pool, a smaller pool with a pool house, private sundeck, a gym and a separate guesthouse. When it comes to negotiating on price, I’m sure Mel will be pulling out a few of William Wallace’s most famous lines: “Go home. Some of us are in this; can’t help that, now. But you can help yourselves. Go home.” In other words…he won’t be budging.
Beyoncé and Jay Z
(8 bed, 11 bath, 1.56 acres, US$120 million)
BOUGHT: Looks like power couple Bey and Jay are Crazy in Love with the luxe neighbourhood of Bel Air, LA, with their sights set on a lavish mansion. The home was essentially rebuilt from scratch since 2013, when it was bought for $15 million – and now the 1.56-acre property has been sold to the Beygency for $120 million! This eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom mansion comes with bulletproof windows, a 15-car garage and not one, but FOUR pools – so big sis Blue Ivy and the twins can each have their own. And, if that garage isn’t sufficient enough for your transportation needs, this mansion also comes with a helipad! A bit over the top? Probably. But when you have the cash to blow – and you Run the World – then why not?
Sylvester Stallone
(4 bed, 4.5 bath, US$750,000)
“Ya know, they always say if you live in one place long enough, you are that place.” – Rocky Balboa
FOR SALE: The Italian Stallion’s childhood home in Silver Spring, Maryland is up for sale. The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath house was built in 1952 and refurbished in 2004. Stallone lived in this quaint little home for about 10 years in the 1950’s and 60’s, and it’s now on the market for $750,000. During his time here, it is known Sylvester had been bullied because of his speech impediment; I guess he related to Rocky Balboa more than we knew. “Life’s not about how hard of a hit you can give… it’s about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward.” This house is one to go down swinging for.
Jerry Zucker
(6 bed, 8 + 4 half bath, 10,000 sq. ft., US$15.5 million)
FOR SALE: Director, writer, and producer Jerry Zucker is selling his US$15.5-million mansion in Mandeville Canyon, LA. Previously listed at $16.5 million, Zucker won’t be taken for a sucker (bad pun I know, feel free to ‘boo’) and lowered the price by a million in hopes of selling asap. The six-bed, eight-full and four-half bath mansion is approximately 10,000 square-feet and filled with plenty of extras. Michael S. Smith (the man who designed the Oval Office) designed and refurbished parts of the house to give it a modern feel. As a lover of films, the second floor is occupied by a screening room equipped with a 35mm projection system and bar – only the best to watch your own movies eh?
