Here’s What Kind of House $500,000 Can Buy Across Canada

The Canadian Real Estate Association reports that 21,840 homes were sold countrywide during Canada’s turbulent 2022 market. The national average home price fell from $626,316 in December to $612,204 in January, a 2.3% decrease. From a bachelor in Toronto to a single-family home in British Columbia, $500,000 is a price point with very diverse listings.

British Columbia

The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) stated that new listings fell by 25.1% while sales activity fell by 40.2% year-over-year in December 2022. Calgary’s already low inventory levels dropped to 2,451 units last month, 43% lower than the long-term trends for the month. However, compared to pre-pandemic levels, Calgary’s real estate activity and prices have increased and are more substantial than the city’s long-term trends.
