It’s winter in Vancouver, which means that the cold is back with a vengeance. But just because it’s chilly outside doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do! Vancouver is a great city filled with activities, and there’s something here for everyone. So grab your parka and mittens and get ready for some fun!

1. Visit the Vancouver Aquarium

The Vancouver Aquarium is a world-renowned facility located in Stanley Park. With over 70,000 animals, it’s one of the largest aquariums in North America. And best of all, it’s indoors, so you can enjoy it even on the coldest of days!

2. Take a walk through Stanley Park

Stanley Park is one of Vancouver’s most popular tourist destinations, and for good reason. It’s huge (over 1000 acres!), and there’s so much to see and do like visiting playgrounds, beaches, and Chinese or botanical gardens. Even on a cold day, it’s a great place to take a walk and explore.

3. Visit the Museum of Anthropology

The Museum of Anthropology at UBC (The University of British Columbia) is one of the finest museums in Canada. With its stunning architecture and world-class collections, it’s well worth a visit even on a chilly day. And if you get tired of being indoors, you can always take a walk around UBC’s beautiful campus!

4. Check out Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is one of Vancouver’s most popular attractions. And while the suspension bridge itself is definitely worth a visit, there’s also plenty to do indoors at the park, including seeing an Indigenous art exhibit and exploring a replica First Nations village.

5. Go shopping at Granville Island Public Market

Granville Island is home to Vancouver’s iconic public market, which is full of fresh food, local artisans, and unique shops. It’s the perfect place to spend a cold day browsing and doing some shopping! And if you get hungry, there are plenty of great places to eat at the market as well.

6. See a movie at The Cinematheque

The Cinematheque is Vancouver’s premier independent cinema, showcasing films from all over the world that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s the perfect place to escape the cold for a couple of hours and enjoy some great cinema!

7. Play some games at an arcade

There are a ton of arcade bars located in downtown Vancouver. Unleash your inner child and choose from tons of classic arcade games from the 80s and 90s. Most arcades have food and drinks making it the perfect place to kill some time on a blustery day!  

8. Take a Ride on the Sea-to-Sky Gondola 

The Sea-to-Sky Gondola is one of Vancouver’s newest attractions. The gondola takes you from sea level to 2,900 feet above Howe Sound in just 10 minutes. And on a clear day, you can see all the way to Mt Baker in Washington state! At the top of the gondola, there are plenty of hiking trails and viewing platforms to explore.

9. Go skiing or snowboarding at Cypress Mountain

Cypress Mountain is just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. They have tons of great trails for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. And if you don’t want to do either of those ski or snowboard, you can always just take the gondola up for some great views!

10. Take a tour of Vancouver Brewery Tours

If you’re looking for something different to do on a cold day in Vancouver, why not take a tour of one (or more!) of our many local breweries? You’ll get to sample some great beers while learning about how they’re made. And who knows, maybe you’ll even find your new favourite brew!  

There are plenty of great things to do in Vancouver on a chilly day! So don’t let the weather stop you from having fun! Grab your winter coat and toque and head out into town! You might just have the best day ever!
