Welcome to Forest Hill

Forest Hill is where you’ll find some of the city’s most extravagant homes, unique parks, and historic landmarks.

Forest Hill is best known for its beautiful homes. The majority of this neighbourhood is tree-lined streets with detached, gorgeous houses—some modern, others traditional. The area has small business, like coffee shops and art galleries, as well as high-ranking schools, stately churches, and a close-knit community.

The People

A luxurious, family-oriented community.

While the actual population of Forest Hill is varied, due to the condos on the outskirts and the natural distribution of Toronto, the predominant community is the Jewish community. The Forest Hill Jewish Centre is central in the neighbourhood, offering community programs and events to its residents. There are also pockets of Russian, Polish, and Filipino locals spread throughout the area.

Many of those living in Forest Hill are more affluent and well-educated than in other areas of the city. It’s an aging community, with more young adults and seniors than the Toronto average. And if you’re thinking Hebrew is the most prevalent language other than English or French, you’d be wrong; Tagalog, spoken by the Filipino community, is the most popular native tongue outside of Canada’s official languages.

The Design

Plenty of manors and large, detached houses. Aside from the Bridle Path and a few select neighbourhoods, Forest Hill has many of the largest homes in the city. The majority are detached with significant yards, but there are some condos scattered throughout, diversifying the area.

The churches and schools throughout are stately buildings—many standing for over a century, like the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church on St. Clair. Upper Canada College, one of the country’s only private boys’ schools, was founded in 1829, making it older than Canada itself. The current campus was erected in 1891 and is truly one of a kind.

The Lifestyle

The best of community living and outdoor recreation. Although Forest Hill is mostly homes, there is a strip of small shops and banks along Spadina, called Forest Hill Village. Here, residents can grab food, do their banking, stop into the spa, and visit the dry cleaner, among other things.

The Belt Line park extends through the northeast portion of this neighbourhood, for those looking for a nice walk with nature along these reclaimed railroad tracks. Alternatively, Cedarvale Park in the southwest offers recreational space for children to play, and tennis courts to practice your serve. There’s also a baseball diamond and occasional community events.
