If you’re thinking about making a move to British Columbia, you’re not alone. The province is known for its natural beauty, diverse population, and vibrant culture. And while Vancouver may be the first city that comes to mind when you think of BC, there are actually many wonderful small towns located throughout the province. Here are a few of our favorite small towns near Vancouver.

Gibsons 

Gibsons is a small town located on the Sunshine Coast, about an hour’s drive from Vancouver. The town is home to a charming main street with boutique shops and restaurants and a beautiful marina. Gibsons is also close to several beaches and hiking trails, making it the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.

Nelson 

Nelson is a historic town located in the West Kootenay region of BC. The town is known for its arts and culture scene, and there are many art galleries, museums, and performance venues to explore. Nelson is also home to a vibrant downtown area with boutique shops and cafes.

Qualicum Beach 

Qualicum Beach is a small town located on Vancouver Island. The town is picturesque, with tree-lined streets and scenic ocean views. Qualicum Beach is also close to several parks and nature reserves, making it the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts.

Squamish

Just an hour’s drive north of Vancouver, Squamish is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. surrounded by towering mountains and pristine forests, the town is popular for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and more. In recent years, Squamish has also become a mecca for kiteboarding and windsurfing thanks to its strong winds and protected bay.

Pemberton

Pemberton is a small town located about two hours north of Vancouver. The town is situated in a valley at the base of Mount Currie and is known for its vibrant farming community. If you love fresh produce, you’ll feel right at home here. Pemberton is also close to several world-class ski resorts, including Whistler Blackcomb, which hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Harrison Hot Springs

Harrison Hot Springs is a beautiful small town located just over an hour east of Vancouver. The town gets its name from the hot springs that can be found in the area and is a popular spot for tourists looking to relax and rejuvenate. Harrison Hot Springs is also surrounded by stunning mountains and lakes, making it the perfect place to enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities like the annual Harrison Tulip Festival.

Bowen Island

Bowen Island is a small island municipality located in Howe Sound just offshore from Vancouver. The island is accessible by ferry from Horseshoe Bay and is well known for its arts community as well as its abundance of hiking trails. With just over 3,000 people, Bowen Island is the perfect place to get away from it all without feeling like you’re too far from civilization.
