How to Never Misplace Your House Keys Again

We’ve all done it (some of us more than others) and losing your keys always seems to happen when you’re rushing out the door and late for something important. While we can’t promise your keys will never pull a disappearing act on you again, here are six tips and tricks to use to never lose your house keys again.

Add a Keychain

This might seem like an obvious one, but the bigger, brighter, and louder your keychain is, the easier it will be to spot it amidst the piles of other things in the junk drawer or lost under a pile of coats on a bench. Adding a clip or carabiner means you can secure inside your bag when the keys are not in use or if you’re on the go, onto a belt loop or strap on your person.

Attach a Bluetooth Tracker

Using a bluetooth tracker like an Apple Airtag or Tile is the best way to not only give yourself peace of mind about your keys whereabouts, but also to help you track them down. For an Apple Airtag, your iPhone can guide you directly to the AirTag  on your keys with visual, haptic, and audio feedback. For Tap tags, simply tap “Find” in the Tile app, and the Tile on your keys will ring.  Some Bluetooth trackers can be added right onto your keyring, while others need their own case.

Designate a Landing Spot

If you have a habit of just tossing your keys onto any available surface when you get home, consider creating a ‘landing spot’ by the door instead. This could be a catch-all dish, a specific hook, or a drawer. Once you have your landing spot, develop the habit of returning your keys to that spot every time you come in.

Add a Lanyards/Wrist Strap

Sometimes, having the ability to wear your keys instead of just carrying them is what you need. Lanyards come in a million styles and colors to fit your preferences. Wrist straps can be a much shorter lanyard, a cute fabric strap, or even a bangle-like hoop that can be worn on your wrist. If you have a tendency to lose your keys more often, opt for a bright neon colour so that it’s easier to find while looking through your purse or backpack.

Keep Your Wallet And Your Keys Together

You’ll be less likely to lose both, right? Opt to keep your keys and wallet together, or consider getting a wallet pouch to clip your keys on. Especially if you only have one or two keys, attaching them to something much bigger should make it easier to keep track of.
