Buying a home is a complex situation at the best of times, but when you have a family the decision can become a lot harder. Considering things like the kind of neighbourhoods you want to live in, how close to certain amenities you are, what kind of schools are in the area and how accessible are all big factors to take into account.  If you’re looking for a family-friendly neighbourhood in Calgary to raise your kids in, we’ve got you covered. Here are three of the top neighbourhoods that fit the bill.

Tuscany

Tuscany is a residential area in the northwest part of Calgary, named after the region in Italy. It’s one of the most family-populated areas in Calgary, with 57% of households having children. Schools include Tuscany Elementary School and Twelve Mile Coulee School, as well as the Catholic School, St. Basil.

Public transport is sparse in the area. While trains are prominent in the northern part, which allows for travel between the bigger cities in the area, southern Tuscany is less established in terms of a rail network, and buses are infrequent. Although, the CTrain does have a stop here, with bus routes including 113, 115 and 138 servicing the station. The average price for a home in Tuscany is $609,141 as of October 2022.

Scenic Acres

Scenic Acres is another neighbourhood in the northwestern part of Calgary. 57% of households in the neighbourhood have children, making it as popular as Tuscany for families. Schools in the area include Monsignor E. L. Doyle Elementary, Scenic Acres and Ecole Nouveau Monde. Bus routes include the 113, 40 and 97, while Crowfoot Station is the closest CTrain station, being adjacent to Scenic Acres. There are bus and train routes but it is not always convenient. The average price for a home in Scenic Acres as of October 2022 was $515,112.

Evanston

Evanston, like the previous two neighbourhoods, is located in Northwestern Calgary, and 57% of homes in the area have children. Evanston has a few schools to choose from in the area, including Our Lady of Grace School and Kenneth D. Taylor School. Bus routes include the 115 and the 124, but there is no CTrain station nearby. The benchmark price for a home in Evanston last year was $522,632.
