Traveling with your furry companion and looking for dog-friendly activities or places to stay in Calgary, Alberta? Well, you’re in luck!

We’ve compiled a list of dog-friendly stores, restaurants, hotels and lodges, and parks for you to explore on your next trip to one of the most affordable and beautiful provinces in Canada.

Dog-Friendly Shopping in Calgary

Ready for some retail therapy with your pup? These Calgary stores are pet-friendly, so you can do all your shopping with your best friend by your side.

1. The Apothecary at 921 9th Avenue SE, Calgary

The Apothecary is one of Calgary’s most popular spots for zero-waste goods, pure essential oils, bulk herbs, and refillable products.

They also offer workshops for pet owners and animal professionals interested in holistic care. In recent years, these workshops have expanded to include safe essential oil use in multi-species households and natural wellness strategies for pet parents.

You can give them a call at (403) 453-0313.

2. Bass Pro Shops at CrossIron Mills, 261055 CrossIron Blvd, Calgary

Looking for outdoor gear? Bass Pro Shop offers 150,000 square feet of outdoor excitement, including the area’s largest selection of quality gear for fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and marine.

Keep in mind that while the store itself is pet-friendly, the attached indoor mall is not. Visitors must enter through the designated Bass Pro entrance rather than through the CrossIron Mills mall corridors. The store remains one of the largest indoor pet-friendly retail spaces in the Calgary region.

You can give them a call at (403) 592-3900.

3. Bed Bath & Beyond (Numerous Locations in Calgary)

Bed Bath & Beyond is a chain of home goods stores that offers a wide assortment of domestic merchandise and home furnishings. The store is dog-friendly, and their staff is well-versed in their dog policy. However, the aisles can get quite busy and crowded, so it’s recommended that you only bring your pup if they are friendly and well-behaved.

While corporate changes have reshaped the brand in recent years, remaining locations and affiliated home goods stores continue to accommodate well-behaved dogs at management discretion.

4. PetValu, PetSmart, and Other Pet Supply Stores

Last but not least, you can always head to a pet store to shop for new clothes, toys, or treats for your pooch.

Many locations have expanded services to include in-store wellness clinics, grooming boutiques, and specialty nutrition consultations. Calgary has also seen growth in independent boutiques such as Bone & Biscuit, Doodle Dogs in Bridgeland, and Unleashed, catering to health-conscious pet owners with natural foods and locally sourced products.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Calgary

Grab a bite at Calgary’s top pet-friendly restaurants with your pup!

Keep in mind that you will have to sit on the patio, which limits options during the cold winter months. We recommend contacting each restaurant to confirm if their patio is open prior to making your way there.

That said, many establishments now use heated patios, enclosed glass windscreens, and extended-season infrastructure to make pet-friendly dining more accessible year-round.

5. Starbelly Open Kitchen & Lounge at 19489 Seton Crescent SE #220, Calgary

Enjoy casual fine dining in Southeast Calgary. Starbelly makes all of its creations from scratch; their menu is inspired by global cuisines, and they proudly source ingredients from local farms.

Starbelly has been welcoming dogs since summer 2019 to their pet-friendly patio – just let the waiter/waitress know when you arrive!

The restaurant has since formalized its popular “Doggie Menu,” offering treats and dedicated water service for canine guests dining alongside their owners.

You can give them a call at (403) 570-0133.

6. Ranchman’s Cookhouse at 9615 Macleod Trail, Calgary

Ranchman’s is Calgary’s iconic country nightclub and favorite Stampede hot spot for the last 50 years. Ranchman’s presents some of the biggest names in country music and is the official hospitality location of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association!

Fun fact, they were one of the first eateries in Canada to become pet-friendly. Leashed, well-behaved pooches can hang out with their pet parents on the front patio. There’s also a dog run behind the establishment, and bowls for food and water are provided.

After more than five decades at its historic Macleod Trail location, Ranchman’s is preparing for relocation, marking the final chapter at this address while continuing its legacy as “Canada’s greatest honky tonk” — and one of the city’s early pioneers of patio pet inclusion.

You can give them a call at (403) 978-8787.

7. Caffe Beano at 1613 9 St SW, Calgary

This beloved Calgary coffee shop has been a local staple since 1990. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor seating and patio, making it a perfect stop for a morning espresso or casual catch-up with your furry friend while you sip and snack. Dogs are typically accommodated at outdoor seating areas where space allows — just let staff know when you arrive!

8. The Dog & Duck Public House and Restaurant at 5340 2 St SW, Calgary

Located in the northwest community, The Dog and Duck Public House and Restaurant offers a classic pub experience with a pet-friendly vibe. Leashed dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio, where you can enjoy hearty pub fare, local beers, and seasonal specials alongside your four-legged companion.

You can give them a call at (403) 253-2489.

Dog-Friendly Places to Stay in Calgary

You and your pup will feel right at home at these dog-friendly accommodations.

Each hotel has its own pet-friendly policy and fees based on the number of pups you’re bringing and their size, so make sure you confirm with hotel staff before booking.

Calgary’s hospitality sector has increasingly standardized transparent, fee-based pet policies, with many hotels now marketing directly to pet-owning travelers.

9. Hyatt Regency Calgary at 700 Centre Street SE, Calgary

For an additional charge of $50-100 per night, depending on your length of stay, your dog can make the Hyatt Regency Calgary their new home! Beds and bowls are provided.

Current policy includes $50 per stay for shorter visits (up to six nights) and $100 for extended stays, with a combined pet weight limit of 75 lbs. The hotel’s proximity to riverfront walking paths makes it especially convenient for daily exercise.

You can give them a call at (403) 717-1234.

10. Best Western Plus Village Park Inn at 1804 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary

Bring up to two dogs with you up to a maximum size of 80 lbs. each. Other pet types, such as cats, birds, monkeys, snakes, or other animals, are allowed at each property’s discretion and require approval.

We recommend calling the hotel directly if you have specific pet-related questions, verifying fees, and guaranteeing availability of a pet-friendly room.

Current fees are $25 per pet, per night. A refundable cleaning and damage deposit of 50.00 CAD is required upon check-in. The hotel also offers underground heated parking — a welcome perk during Calgary winters.

You can give them a call at (403) 289-0241.

11. Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire at 255 Barclay Walk SW, Calgary

Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire is a sophisticated, pet-friendly hotel, perfect for business travel or your next family holiday.

The hotel now welcomes two pets of any size with a $50 flat per-stay fee, and its location steps from Prince’s Island Park provides immediate access to scenic riverside walking paths.

You can give them a call at (403) 266-7200.

Dog-Friendly Parks in Calgary

Today, the city manages more than 160 public off-leash areas totaling approximately 1,250 hectares — one of the most extensive urban off-leash networks in North America. This accounts for almost 13% of the park space managed and maintained by Calgary Parks.

Take a look at this map for an overview of all the off-leash dog parks in Calgary. Here are some of the more popular parks pet-parents tend to frequent.

12. Sue Higgins Park at Southland Dr. & Deerfoot Tr. S.E., Calgary

Sue Higgins Park lies along the west bank of the Bow River as it flows through the southeast corner of Calgary. The park consists of an island, riverbanks, a floodplain, and inland marshes. The park was established in 1994 and covers about 62 hectares.

Widely regarded as the crown jewel of Calgary’s off-leash system, the fully fenced design, island access, and designated small-dog areas make it one of the city’s most secure and comprehensive play spaces.

13. Bowmont Park at 85 St. N.W. & 48 Ave. N.W.

Bowmont Park is a large natural environment park along the northern bank of the Bow River in northwest Calgary. It features expansive grasslands, rolling valleys, and riverfront pathways and is home to a wide variety of wildlife species.

Recent updates at Bowmont Park include new fenced sections near the Silver Springs Gate entrance and pilot compostable pet waste initiatives aimed at reducing plastic contamination in Calgary’s green cart system. The park’s dramatic escarpments and sweeping river valley views also make it a favorite destination for high-energy dogs.

14. Petfinity at 11501 Buffalo Run Blvd #103B

For unpredictable weather or winter days when outdoor parks aren’t ideal, this indoor dog park in Tsuut’ina offers a year-round alternative. The spacious indoor facility features premium turf, a wide walking path, and dedicated spaces for small or reactive dogs to play off-leash safely.

Park access is available on a walk-in basis (no reservation required), and proof of vaccinations is needed for entry.
