This week in celebrity real estate: Amal and George Clooney buy a glittering on-concept condo, Mariah Carey gets treated to an Aspen freebie, and Manhattan’s West Village sees some serious buying and selling action.
George Clooney’s On-Concept Manhattan Condo
(3-bed, 3-bath, 3,385 square feet, US$14.7 million)
BOUGHT: Ultimate power couple Amal and George Clooney have snapped up a $14.7-million unit in One Hundred East 53rd Street, a pre-construction condo going up in Midtown Manhattan. The apartment, which takes up the whole of the 49th floor, features an entry gallery, white oak flooring, 11-foot ceilings, a chef’s kitchen, master bedroom with grand dressing room, and stunning city views. And if that wasn’t luxurious enough, this development boasts some seriously sweet amenities such as a 60-foot pool, pilates and yoga studios, and doorman service. The Clooneys won’t even have to step out to do grocery shopping – a gourmet marketplace and three-star restaurant are located on the bottom floor. Plus, they’ll have some pretty fancy neighbours – Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber reportedly own the unit below.
Mariah Carey’s Aspen Airbnb Ski Retreat
( 5-bed, 5-bath, US$13,780 per night)
RENTED: The dazzling songstress, known for her eight-octave pipes and mega-watt hits Always Be My Baby and All I Want for Christmas Is You, retreats to Aspen each year for the holiday season – and this year she’ll be staying for free. Airbnb is graciously hosting the chanteuse, boyfriend Bryan Tanaka and dembabies in the “Aspen Highlands Thurderbowl Estate”, which usually rents for $13,780 per night. The stunning property, valued at US$22 million, features ski-in access, sweeping mountain views, wood burning fire place, games room, wine room, gym, sauna and private hot tub. We hope our favourite butterfly gets plenty of rest and relaxation in her swanky ski digs!
Louis C.K.’s West Village Condo
(2-bed, 2-bath, 1,300 square feet, US$2.45 million)
BOUGHT: Comedian Louise C.K. is adding to his Manhattan real estate portfolio with a condo to accompany the four West Village brownstone units he owns with ex-wife Alix Bailey. Purchased from architects Peter Eisenman and Cynthia Davidson, the unit features unique touches such as custom bookcases, hardwood floors and a chef’s kitchen. Windows look out onto bustling 6th Street, alongside an impressive rooftop deck.
Willem Dafoe’s Lower East Side Co-Op
(2-bed, 1-bath, $US860,000)
SOLD: Willem Dafoe – aka Spiderman villain Doctor Octopus – has sold the Manhattan condo he owned with son Jack for what’s practically a pittance by celeb standards – though it’s a nice uptick from the US$660,000 the father-son duo bought it for in 2005. While Dafoe splits his time with wife Giada Colagrande in Rome, LA, and another West Village penthouse, it’s rumoured Jack actually lived in this pre-war apartment, which has hardwood floors, high ceilings, and courtyard views.
Ron Glass’s Los Feliz Lookout
(2-bed, 2.5-bath, 2,138 square feet, US$1.85 million)
FOR SALE: The Los Feliz home that belonged to late actor Ron Glass (known for the Barney Miller Show and Firefly) is up for sale for $1.85 million. Built in 1959, this mid-century modern-style home has some truly spectacular views, stretching over LA, the hills and as far as the Pacific Ocean. The new owner is sure to love the vista, wraparound balcony, master bed with ensuite and walk-in closets.
