Traveling with your furry companion and looking for dog-friendly activities or places to stay in Calgary, Alberta? Well, you’re in luck! 

We’ve compiled a list of dog-friendly stores, restaurants, hotels and lodges, and parks for you to explore on your next trip to one of the most affordable and beautiful provinces in Canada, Alberta.

Dog-Friendly Shopping in Calgary  

Ready for some retail therapy with your pup? These stores in Calgary are pet-friendly so you can do all your shopping with your best friend by your side.

(Just don’t let those cute puppy eyes talk you into buying too many treat or toys.)

1. The Apothecary at 921 9th Avenue SE, Calgary

The Apothecary is one of Calgary’s most popular spots for zero waste goods, pure essential oils, bulk herbs, and refillable products. 

They also offer a workshop for pet owners and animal professionals that are interested in learning about holistic care.

2. The Consignment Gallery at 6025 3 Street E, Calgary

A mother and daughter-owned business offering a one-of-a-kind experience where you can find high-quality modern and unique accent furnishings to personalize your living space.

3. Bass Pro Shops at CrossIron Mills, 261055 CrossIron Blvd, Calgary

Looking for outdoor gear? Bass Pro Shop offers 150,000 square feet of outdoor excitement including the area’s largest selection of quality gear for fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and marine.

Kind in mind that while the store itself is pet-friendly, the attached indoor mall is not.

4. Bed Bath & Beyond (Numerous Locations in Calgary)

Bed Bath & Beyond is a chain of home goods stores that offers a wide assortment of domestic merchandise and home furnishings.

According to Calgary Canine, Bed Bath & Beyond is dog friendly and their staff are well versed in their dog policy. However, the aisles can get quite busy and crowded so it’s recommended that you only bring your pup if they are friendly and well-behaved.

5. PetValu, PetSmart, and Other Pet Supply Stores

Last but not least, you can always head to a pet store to shop for new clothes, toys, or treats for your pooch. 

Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Calgary

Grab a bite at Calgary’s top pet-friendly restaurants with your pup! 

Keep in mind that you will have to sit on the patio, which limits options during the cold winter months. We recommend contacting each restaurant to confirm if their patio is open prior to making your way there.

6. 1918 Tap & Table at 1918 Kensington Road NW, Calgary

Come check out this stylish and spacious gastropub offering bar fare, a kids’ menu, large TVs to enjoy your favourite sports games, and vegetarian/gluten free-options.

The outdoor patio is dog-friendly and they even offer a relief green space located on the north side of the building!

7. Starbelly Open Kitchen & Lounge at 19489 Seton Crescent SE #220, Calgary

Enjoy casual fine dining in Southeast Calgary. Starbelly makes all of their creations from scratch, their menu is inspired by global cuisines and they create their dishes by proudly sourcing ingredients from local farms.

Starbelly has been welcoming dogs since summer 2019 to their pet-friendly patio – just let the waiter/waitress know when you arrive!

8. Ranchman’s Cookhouse at 9615 Macleod Trail, Calgary

Ranchman’s is Calgary’s iconic country nightclub and favorite Stampede hot spot for the last 50 years. Ranchman’s presents some of the biggest names in country music and is the official hospitality location of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association!

Fun fact, they were one of the first eateries in Canada to become pet-friendly. Leashed, well-behaved pooches can hang out with their pet parents on the front patio. There’s also a dog run behind the establishment, and bowls for food and water are provided.

Dog-Friendly Places to Stay in Calgary

You and your pup will feel right at home at these dog-friendly accommodations. 

Each hotel has its own pet-friendly policy and varying fees associated based on the number of pups you’re bringing with you and their size, so make sure you confirm with hotel staff prior to booking.

9. Hyatt Regency Calgary at 700 Centre Street SE, Calgary

For an additional charge of $50-100 per night depending on your length of stay, your dog can make the Hyatt Regency Calgary their new home!

10. Best Western Plus Village Park Inn at 1804 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary

Bring up to two dogs with you up to a maximum size of 80 lbs. each. Other pet types such as cats, birds, monkeys, snakes, or other animals are allowed at the discretion of each property and require approval.

We recommend calling the hotel directly if you have specific pet related questions, verify fees, and to guarantee availability of a pet-friendly room.

11. Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire at 255 Barclay Walk SW, Calgary

Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire is a sophisticated pet-friendly hotel, perfect for business travel or next family holiday. 

Pets are welcome but limited to a maximum of 2 pets per room and a weight of 30 kgs (approximately 66 lbs).

Dog-Friendly Parks in Calgary

Calgary has over 157 off-leash dog parks for you and your dog to enjoy. This accounts for almost 13% of park space that Calgary Parks manages and maintains.

12. Sue Higgins Park at Southland Dr. & Deerfoot Tr. S.E., Calgary

Sue Higgins Park lies along the west bank of the Bow River as it flows through the southeast corner of Calgary. The park consists of an island, river banks, flood plain and inland marshes. The park was established in 1994 and covers about 62 hectares.

It is pet-friendly and offers a fully fenced-in dog park for your furry companion to run around off-leash and make friends!

13. Bowmont Park at 85 St. N.W. & 48 Ave. N.W.

Bowmont Park is a large natural environment park that lies along the northern bank of the Bow River in the northwest part of Calgary. Featuring grasslands, valleys, rivers, and home to many wildlife.

They are pet-friendly and are running a new pilot program to test out dog bag dispensers! There are a total of three dispensers at the park entries.

If you’re planning a trip to Calgary, Alberta and are hesitant about bringing your pet with you, rest assured as  there is no shortage of pet-friendly activities and places to stay throughout Calgary. 

Whether you want to go shopping, out to dinner, or just stroll through a park there is something for everyone, furry friends included!
