After digging the foundation by hand, a man named Floyd began assembling the cabin from hand hewn Western Cedar logs & wrapping the foundation & fireplace in stone collected from a quarry in Mt. Airy, NC. The original shake roof was replaced with a copper one & gutters manufactured in local metal shop in Fayetteville, NC - the first house in Cumberland Co to ever have a solid copper roof. Inside of the house you will find stories of his collection starting with the front door. This door was salvaged from a house that burnt down about 4 miles down the road. Its twin is still in a house on main st of Hope Mills and is painted red. The floors in the living room were hand milled from North Carolina pine. You will also notice in the front row of the fireplace floor there are two bricks that are slightly different sized then the rest.
