Kingston City Guide

Nicknamed the Limestone City, Kingston established as the first capital of Canada in 1841. That title was short lived, however, as Montreal was awarded the distinction in 1844.

Parks

Public Transportation

The main transit system is serviced by Kingston Transit. The Kingston Transit system operates buses.

The entire city of Kingston is serviced by buses. There are currently no plans for any rapid transit system to be implemented in the city. A majority of major routes run from 6:00AM in the morning until 12:00AM at night with reduced service on weekends. A one-way fare on the Kingston Transit system is $3.00 for adults and free for children. A monthly pass can be purchased for $56.50 a month.

Airports

Kingston is serviced by the Norman Rogers Airport (YGK) which has frequent flights by Air Canada Express to Toronto-Pearson Airport. There are no other destinations for YGK and residents rarely use the airport over driving to Toronto.

Taxi/Uber/Lyft

The biggest taxi company that operates in Kingston is Amey’s Taxi. Taxis are difficult to be hailed on the streets so it is best to book in advance or visit a train station or hotel where they are usually parked waiting for passengers.

Uber launched in the city in 2015, along with Windsor and Niagara region. Currently, the only service offered is UberX.

Highways

Kingston is connected to the rest of Ontario and Quebec by the 401 Highway. There are no other highways that are connected to the city of Kingston.

Hospitals

There are currently 2 hospitals in the city of Kingston: Hotel Dieu Hospital and Kingston General Hospital. Hotel Dieu Hospital is located in downtown Kingston while Kingston General Hospital is located right at the heart of the Queen’s University Campus.
