However, a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/en-CA\/newsroom\/uber-eats-canada-10-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uber Eats\u2019 January 2026 report<\/a> on the top tipping cities over the past decade suggests otherwise. Zoocasa analyzed housing costs against these &#8220;generous&#8221; cities to see what the data really says. Spoiler alert: It\u2019s a lot easier to be generous when you aren&#8217;t spending your entire paycheck on high mortgage payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are searching for a place where prosperity sparks generosity, Alberta stands out for several reasons. Here, residents enjoy the country&#8217;s highest median income at $88,500 and are home to two of the top three most generous cities in Canada. Even with detached home prices exceeding a majority of those in other provinces on this list, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Calgary<\/a> leads Canada\u2019s 10 largest census metropolitan areas with a 70.5% homeownership rate, according to Statistics Canada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edmonton, in particular, is a sweet spot for giving. Despite being Canada\u2019s fifth-largest city, it offers some of the lowest average rents ($1,591) and detached home prices ($556,752). It turns out that when you aren&#8217;t house-poor, you\u2019re more likely to say &#8220;keep the change.&#8221; Uber Eats even reported Edmonton as one of the most polite cities, based on who says &#8220;please,&#8221; &#8220;thank you,&#8221; and &#8220;merci&#8221; the most. Just like Calgary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/edmonton-ab-real-estate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edmonton<\/a> has one of the highest homeownership rates among big cities in Canada at 68.7%. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/blog\/happiest-big-cities-in-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">November 2025 Zoocasa report<\/a>, Montreal and Mississauga are the only major Canadian cities where happiness scores exceed the national average. However, the price tag for that satisfaction varies wildly between the two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mississauga, where the average home price was $969,501 in fall 2025, residents paid approximately $13,788 per &#8220;happiness point.&#8221; Meanwhile, Montreal offers a much better bargain: thanks to lower real estate costs, a point of happiness there costs only $8,343. What\u2019s more interesting is that Montreal ranked third among the most generous cities according to Uber Eats, while Mississauga and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/toronto-on-real-estate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toronto<\/a> did not even rank in the top ten.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Halifax is the Most Generous City on the East Coast&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/halifax-ns-real-estate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Halifax<\/a> has long been celebrated for its unrivaled Atlantic hospitality, so it\u2019s a natural fit that the city shines as one of Canada\u2019s top five most generous spots for tipping. As one of the country&#8217;s fastest-growing urban centres, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoocasa.com\/blog\/halifax-population-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Halifax is experiencing an exciting renaissance<\/a>; immigration has doubled since 2016, and the city maintains a youthful pulse with one in five residents aged 15 to 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This surging popularity is a testament to the city&#8217;s high quality of life, even as it navigates the transition into a major metropolitan hub. While the high demand has brought rental prices ($2,270) in line with major Ontario cities, it reflects just how many people are eager to be part of the Halifax success story.
