Most often, purchasing a home will come with some kind of renovation or decorating project. To help with those projects, consider stocking your toolbox with these basic tools, and if you buy good quality, most of them will literally last a lifetime.<\/p>\n

Electrical tester <\/span>\u2013 Use it before you work on any electrical circuit to be sure it\u2019s safe and there\u2019s no current.<\/p>\n

Hammer<\/span> \u2013 Preferably 16-ounces with a curved claw for pulling nails and with a fiberglass handle to help cushion shock.<\/p>\n

Level<\/span> \u2013 Allows you to make sure whatever pictures or shelving you put up are straight and level.<\/p>\n

Pliers set<\/span> \u2013 Needle noses are necessary for wiring, while wire cutting and small slip joint pliers not only cut wire but can double as wire strippers.<\/p>\n

Power drill <\/span>\u2013 A reversible power drill is an essential, and don\u2019t forget to get various-sized drill bits as well.<\/p>\n

Saw<\/span> \u2013 Choose a small 12 to15 inch handsaw or circular saw for larger projects.<\/p>\n

Screwdrivers<\/span> \u2013 Start out with a single screwdriver that has interchangeable bits as it\u2019s good for most jobs around the house.<\/p>\n

Stud finder<\/span> \u2013 If you\u2019re hanging shelves, you\u2019ll want to be sure to mount them on studs.<\/p>\n

Tape measure<\/span> \u2013 Be sure the tape has clear contrasting markings and is both broad and strong so it won\u2019t droop when extended.<\/p>\n

Utility knife<\/span> \u2013 Great for cutting flooring or plastic.<\/p>\n
