Bold Tile Shapes and Colours
Gone are the days of monochrome backsplashes and subway tiles – today’s tiling incorporates bright colours, patterns, and lots of corners. “This floor tile shows how exciting tile can be! The shape is very current – hexagonal tiles are so hot right now,” says Amlani. “In this example, the tile has two different patterns that show versatility – it’s the same shape, but a different printed pattern.”
Eclectic Lighting
Designers continue to position lights as conversation pieces and focal points, ranging from utilitarian to sculpture-like. “There are so many beautiful options for lights,” says Amlani. “Along with the exciting new shapes, there were some great finishes – bronze, brass, chrome, and more.”
Eye-Catching Hardware
“It is often said that the hardware on cabinets finishes a piece and acts as the jewellery of the furniture,” says Amlani, who points to handles, drawers and doors dressed up with added flair. “With so many fantastic options for size, shape, finish, that definitely still holds true,” she adds.
Go Multi-Can
Can’t decide on a feature wall colour? Why not try a mural, as encouraged by the Premier Paints booth, where visitors contributed to a growing wall of art. “It made for a fun and interactive booth while at the same time demonstrating that their product offers great coverage,” Amlani says.
Efficiency is Everything
A pleasing aesthetic is only one part of the great design equation – items have to be well-functioning for their true beauty to shine through says Amlani, who found the setup by Kompact kitchens to be be a great option for condo dwellers.
“This is a great installation – everything is combined, and it fits neatly into a small foot print,” she says. “Sometimes space is tight, such as in newer downtown condos or when retrofitting a kitchen. It’s comforting to know that there are exciting options!”
Add a Splash of Bath Colour
Often, bathroom designs channel tranquility with subdued shades or glossy whites – that aesthetic is getting a shakeup this year, with freestanding tubs in vibrant shades.”How beautiful are these tubs?,” Amlani exclaims. “These are incredible and they have gone from beautiful to showpiece! They’ve just inspired me to want to re-design my bathroom!”
“Overall, we are celebrating colour, technology and design,” she adds. “While some choices are bolder, pretty much anything goes!”
